Vernacular: Bud Moth

Account: Common in orchards, woodland, gardens and parks throughout the British Isles, more numerous in the south. Characterised by the dense and well-defined basal patch, the usually prominent pre-tornal marking and the elongate ocellus of the forewing; the male is further distinguished by the antennal notch [Bradley]. The larva is polyphagous, showing a preference for woody Rosaceae such as apple, pear and hawthorn.
